I chose to shoot my photo essay of my little sister participating in her favorite activity, hockey. I chose to do this topic because it is also an important hobby of mine that I have been involved in since I was about her age.
My sister is in her second year of hockey and since she is still developing her game, my dad makes her take 100 shots in the drive way after school. I wanted to capture the happiness, premote physical activity and show her development in her journey to being a better hockey player. I wanted to capture the routine she follows on a day to day basis, so I did not change anything to arrange for my shoot. I simply captured the activity.
I used a digital SLR camera to shoot these 10 pictures. I did not run into many problems, however there was a massive shaddow covering the entire driveway. this was not a problem because I don't have many back lit photos. It took me a while to capture the three picture action shot because I wanted to capture the puck flying through the air. I solved this by taking many pictures on the "sport setting", then I chose the best three.
Since I took about 80 pictures total, I was able to chose 10 really good ones to capture the outdoor experience. These pictures conveyed the message I had hoped for, from getting ready to go outside, to the big smile at the end of her activity.
